# Notifications

> Read, open and mark as read the alerts in the bell menu of the top bar, such as style changes and approvals.

The bell icon in the top bar collects your notifications, for example changes to a collection or style, status updates and approvals that need your attention. New notifications appear without you having to refresh the page.

**Where to find it:** Top navigation bar → Notification (bell icon)
**Requires:** permission `VIEW_NOTIFICATION`

> [!IMPORTANT]
> The bell only appears if you have the **VIEW_NOTIFICATION** permission. Marking notifications as read needs **UPDATE_NOTIFICATION**.

1. **Click the bell**
   Click the bell icon in the top bar. A red badge on the bell shows how many unread notifications you have, up to 99+.

   

2. **Choose a tab**
   In the **Notification** panel, **Unread** is open first. Click **Read** to see notifications you have already dealt with.

3. **Read a notification**
   Each notification shows an icon for its type, a title, who did it, and the date and time. When it relates to a collection or style, a trail such as collection → style → development type → version shows below, and each part is a link.

4. **Open the item**
   Click the arrow icon, labelled **View**, to open the item in a new browser tab.

5. **Mark it as read**
   Click the check icon, labelled **Mark as read**. The notification moves from **Unread** to **Read**.

6. **Mark everything as read**
   On the **Unread** tab, click **Mark All as Read** at the top right of the list.

   

The lists show 10 notifications at a time. Click **Load More** at the bottom to see older ones.

## Empty and error states

- **You don't have new notifications**: nothing is waiting on the **Unread** tab.
- **You haven't read any notifications**: the **Read** tab is empty.
- **Failed to load notifications**: reload the page and try again.
