The Rules & Automation section allows users to create automated Stock Level Rules at the SKU or style level. These rules trigger actions based on inventory thresholds, such as low-stock alerts, reorder points, or overstock warnings. Users can easily create new rules, view existing ones, and test rule behavior using a stock quantity simulator to ensure accuracy before activation.

**Where to find it:** Inventory → Rules & Automation
**Requires:** permission `UPDATE_STYLE_INVENTORY`

> [!IMPORTANT]
> **Rules & Automation** only appears in the **Inventory** menu if your role includes permission to update style inventory.

## Choose a rule type

When you open **Rules & Automation**, the page shows **Set up automated rules to manage your inventory efficiently** and a **Rule Categories** list (**Select a rule type to manage**). It opens on **Stock Level Rules** by default.

- **Stock Level Rules**: change a product's stock status when its quantity crosses a threshold. See [Inventory stock level rules](https://docs.vestislabs.com/inventory/inventory-stock-level-rules/).
- **Allocation Rules**: automatically allocate or reserve stock based on conditions. See [Inventory allocation rules](https://docs.vestislabs.com/inventory/inventory-allocation-rules/).
