# Digital library overview

> Understand what the Library menu contains, how materials are organised, and which tabs a material has, so you know where to go for each task.

The **Library** menu in the left sidebar is the home of everything you reuse across styles: the materials you buy, the colours you work with, the size charts you measure with, and the saved templates that read your Excel files. Everything you create here can be linked to styles, BOMs, tech packs and the Digital ID.

## What is in the Library menu

> [!NOTE]
> **Import Templates** only appears in the menu when at least one of the Excel imports (techpack, measurement or SKU and barcode list) is turned on for your brand.

All four entries need the permission to view products. Without it, the **Library** group is not shown.

## Private and public materials

Every material is either **Private** or **Public**.

- A **Private** material is visible only to your brand.
- A **Public** material is available to every brand on Vestis Labs. It appears under the **Public Library** tab for other brands, who can use it but not change it.

Which of the two you can create depends on your role: the private library and the public library are separate permissions. Once a material is made public, it cannot be made private again while another brand is using it. Contact support if you need help.

## The tabs of a material

Opening a material shows a row of tabs. Which tabs you see depends on the material and on what is turned on for your brand.

| **Variant & Price** | Always | Check and override the price of each colour. See [Set prices for colour variants](https://docs.vestislabs.com/library/material-variant-price/). |
| **Certificates** | Always | Link or create certificates. See [Material certificates](https://docs.vestislabs.com/library/material-certificates/). |
| **Sampling** | Sampling is turned on for your brand | Track the samples requested for this material. |
| **Production** | Material production is turned on, and the material is private | Raise and follow production orders for this material. |
| **Inventory** | Material production is turned on, and the material is private | See stock, receiving and adjustments. |

> [!IMPORTANT]
> You need the permission to update products to open a material and its tabs. Viewing the list only needs the permission to view products.
