# Reports and insights overview

> Understand your personal Reports and Insights board, how widgets and views work, and where to start building yours.

**Reports and Insights** is your own board of report widgets. Each widget answers one question about your styles, costs, samples or production orders, and you decide which widgets sit on the board, how big they are and where they go.

## Before you start

- **Reports and Insights** appears in the left sidebar, directly below **Home**, only when it is switched on for your brand. If you cannot see it, contact support.
- Every user has a personal board. Nobody else sees the widgets you add.
- Which widgets you can add depends on your permissions. See [Reports widget catalogue](https://docs.vestislabs.com/reports/reports-widget-catalogue/).

## What you see on the page

- **The view selector** at the top left shows the name of the view you are looking at. A view is a saved arrangement of widgets, and you can keep several. See [Manage board views](https://docs.vestislabs.com/reports/manage-board-views/).
- **Add widget** opens the widget gallery. See [Add a widget to your board](https://docs.vestislabs.com/reports/add-a-widget-to-your-board/).
- **Customise** lets you drag and resize widgets. See [Arrange your board](https://docs.vestislabs.com/reports/arrange-your-board/).
- **The board** holds your widgets. Each widget has its own filters, so you can show the same report for two seasons side by side.

## Your first visit

The first time you open the page, you get one empty view called **My board**. Instead of guessing which reports matter to you, the page shows an empty state with the title “My board” is empty and the text *Add report widgets from styles, sampling, production and more, then arrange them however you like.*

1. **Click "Add your first widget"**
   Click the **Add your first widget** button in the middle of the empty board.

2. **Choose a report**
   Click **Add** on the report you want. It lands on the board straight away.

You should now see your first widget on the board. Everything you change on the board is saved automatically to your account.

> [!NOTE]
> If a saved widget needs a permission you no longer have, it stays on your board but shows its name with the message *You don't have access to this report.* If a widget cannot load, it shows *Couldn't load this widget.* with a **Try again** button.
