## Style category – admin setup

This article outlines best practices for setting up and using style categories in Vestis Labs to support clear classification and improved organisation of your styles throughout the product development process.

## Introduction & best practice

Style categories in Vestis Labs help organise styles into meaningful groups, creating structure and ensuring clarity across your workflows. By assigning categories—such as tops, bottoms, outerwear, accessories, or footwear—you enable a logical grouping of styles that enhances filtering, reporting, and collaboration between teams.

While style categories are optional, using them is highly recommended to support scalability and maintain a well-organised style library as your assortment grows. Clear category definitions in Admin ensure consistent use, improve searchability, and create a more efficient and aligned development process across teams.

## Step-by-step guide

Users can **create a style category in two ways**:

1. Through the style category page.
2. Through the style page.

## Through the style page

## Create style category

**Navigate** to **Collection & Styles \> Styles**.

Users can create a category when [**creating a new style**](https://docs.vestislabs.com/collection-style/create-a-new-style/) in the **Category** field, or when editing a style on the **Main Style Details page**.

- Open the **Category** field (**Add or Select Category**) and type the name of the new category
- Click the **Add** option that shows the name you typed - the category is created and selected for the style
