Introduction & best practice
These features enable you to design, configure, and manage professional barcode labels for your products with complete control over format, layout, and information display. Users need to create their first barcode template, and the corresponding SKU codes must be generated.
Step-by-step guide
BarcodeManage Templates
Permission: VIEW_BARCODE
Navigate to the Barcode > Dashboard from the left sidebar menu

Navigate to the Barcode > Manage Templates from the left sidebar menu

If no templates exist, you'll see a landing page with setup instructions
Click "Get Started" to begin

Or users can click "+ New Template" to create a new template.

Fill out all the information on the page:
- Template Name - Enter a descriptive name for your template (e.g., "Euro Template")

- Selecting the right label theme ensures that your barcode labels are both functional and visually aligned with your operational or branding needs.
On the right side of the screen, the Label Preview section provides a real-time visualization of your selected theme.
Choose one of the label themes:
- Default Barcode - Classic barcode label with text lines above. Leave the theme unselected for a classic barcode-only template.
- Product Label - Full product label with logo, product image, text fields, and vertical barcode. Ideal for shoe boxes and packaging.
- Simple Label - Text fields with barcode below. Clean layout for basic product identification.
- Compact Label - Minimal layout with text and barcode side by side. Best for small stickers.
Note
Selecting a theme sets a suggested label size and fills the label lines with common fields such as product name and colour. You can change both afterwards.

- Select your Barcode Type: Code 128, EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 39 or GTIN-14 (ITF-14). See Barcode types and rules for what each type allows.

Barcode Format Information
When you select a barcode type (e.g., Code 128), the system displays additional details such as:
- Length
- Charset (supported characters)
- Prefix / Suffix options
- Check digit
- Use case
- Example barcode values
This helps you understand the technical constraints and ensures that your selected format matches your requirements.

- Choose your Generation Method: Manual or Sequential.
- With Sequential, the system numbers barcodes for you within the range you set.
- With Manual, you type the barcode number for each SKU when you generate barcodes.

Fill out all the style label information on the page based on the selected barcode type.
For example (Code 128):
- Type the Start Number and the End Number.

For EAN-13, UPC-A and GTIN-14 the range is entered in three fields instead:
- GS1 Company Prefix - Your GS1-assigned company prefix.
- Product Code Start - The first product code in the range.
- Product Code End - The last product code in the range.
The check digit is calculated automatically and the full number is previewed under each field. The page also shows how many barcodes the range can hold.
Test Generate
This feature allows users to preview barcode values before finalizing the configuration.
- Enter the Count (number of samples to generate, up to 50)
- Click Test to see a preview of generated barcode numbers
Note
Test Generate is a dry run. Nothing is saved. It appears only when the generation method is Sequential.

The barcode numbers will appear under this section.

- Click the Barcode Prefix field and type any prefix you want to add before the barcode number (optional)
- Click the Barcode Suffix field and type any suffix you want to add after the barcode number (optional)
Note
The prefix and suffix fields are not shown for EAN-13, UPC-A and GTIN-14.

- Select the Barcode Length (e.g., click "13" for 13-digit format). EAN-13, UPC-A and GTIN-14 have a fixed length.

- Choose the Currency: Click "EUR (€) - Euro Member Countries" or select your preferred currency

Use the toggles to:
- Activate Template: Turn on “Template is active” to make the template available for use.
- Set as Default (Optional): Enable “Set as default template” if you want this template to be automatically selected.
- Show Barcode: Turn on “Show barcode” to display the barcode image on the label.
- Show Barcode Number: Turn on “Show barcode number” to display the barcode value (text).
Note
Show barcode and Show barcode number can only be changed after you select a label theme.

- In Barcode Label Dimensions, open the Select label size list to see the size options.
- Choose your preferred size, or select Custom Size to define the exact dimensions of your barcode label to match your printing needs.
For example: "Custom Size"

Select the dimension unit (e.g., cm)

- Enter the Custom Width and Custom Height based on your label size. These fields can only be edited when Custom Size is selected.

- Under Font Sizes, select the font size for Line 1, Line 2 and Line 3 based on your label size.

- Under Select information to include on the label, the fields you can use are listed in AVAILABLE FIELDS.
- Check or uncheck an item on a line to show or hide it on the label.

- Drag items between LINE 1, LINE 2 and LINE 3 to organise your label layout. Several items on the same line are separated by "/".
- Drag an item from a line back to AVAILABLE FIELDS to remove it from the label.

- Click “Reset to Defaults” to replace the current settings with those of your default template. The button is unavailable until you have an active template marked as default. Confirm with Yes, Reset to Defaults.

- Click "Save Template" to save your configuration. You return to the template list.

The created template will be listed in the barcode template page
N.B: Through this page, users can also manage their existing barcode templates.
