An import template is how Vestis remembers the layout of one of your Excel files. The first time you import a file in a new layout, Vestis asks a few questions and saves your answers as a template. The next file in the same format goes straight to review. The Import Templates page lists every saved template so you can check it, test it, rename it, copy it or delete it.

Note

Import Templates only appears in the menu when at least one Excel import is turned on for your brand. Each kind of template shows only while its own import is on: Techpack, Measurement and SKU & barcode list.

To learn how to import a file and create a template in the first place, see Import from Excel.

What the page shows

Each template is a card with:

  • its name;
  • a badge for its kind: Techpack, Measurement or SKU & barcode list;
  • the date it was last updated;
  • a short list of what the template reads, for example the style fields it fills, the sheet and starting column of the materials table, how colours are named, and the size chart sheet and unit.

At the top right there are buttons to start an import straight from this page:

  • Import techpacks when the techpack import is on and you can create styles.
  • Import SKUs & barcodes when the SKU and barcode list import is on and you have the permissions it needs.

If you have no templates yet, the page says "No import templates yet" and explains what to import first, for example "Import a techpack once and Vestis saves how it reads your file as a template." If no import is turned on, it says "Importing from Excel isn't turned on for this brand."

Test a template on a file

Testing shows what a template would read from a file. Nothing is saved.

  1. Open the actions menu

    Click the three dots on the template card. The menu needs the permission to update products.

  2. Click "Test on a file"

    The Test "template name" on a file dialog opens.

  3. Drop in a file

    Drop an .xlsx file in the box, or click it to choose one. Vestis shows "Reading the file...".

  4. Read the result

    The dialog lists What this template found. For a techpack template it also shows the size chart that was found. For a measurement template it shows the style code, style name, unit and the number of measurement cards found, and which sheets were left out and why. For a SKU and barcode list template it shows the sheet, how many rows have a code, and the first rows split up.

  5. Click "Close"

    Click Close when you are done.

Tip

If a SKU template says "We couldn't find the GTIN and code columns in this file. Check it's the same kind of list.", the file is not in the layout the template expects.

Edit a template

Click the three dots, then Edit. A dialog titled Edit "template name" opens with the sample file the template was made from, and the same questions you answered when you set the template up. Change an answer and click Save changes (Save for a SKU and barcode list template). Cancel closes the dialog without changing anything. If you changed something and close, Vestis asks you to confirm before it discards your edits.

If a template has no sample file, the dialog says "This template has no sample file. Upload one to edit it." and gives you a box to upload one.

Rename or duplicate a template

  1. Open the actions menu

    Click the three dots on the template card.

  2. Pick "Rename" or "Duplicate"

    Rename opens Rename template. Duplicate opens Duplicate template with the name pre-filled as the original name followed by "copy".

  3. Enter the name

    Type the name in the Name field. The button stays disabled while the name is empty.

  4. Click "Save" or "Duplicate"

    The button reads Save for a rename and Duplicate for a copy.

Delete a template

  1. Open the actions menu

    Click the three dots on the template card.

  2. Click "Delete"

    The Delete template dialog asks: "Delete "template name"? Files already imported with it are not affected. This cannot be undone."

  3. Confirm

    Click Delete, or Cancel to keep the template.

Warning

Deleting a template cannot be undone. The next file in that layout starts the setup questions again.
